Nucleosides, Nucleotides & DNA

Nucleotides are the basic building blocks of nucleic acids- ribonucleic acid (RNA) and deoxyriboneculeic acid (DNA).

Nucleosides are glycosylamines consisting of nucleobase bound to a ribose or deoxyribose sugar via a beta-glycosidic linkage.eg. uridine, adenosine, guanosine, thymidine and inosine.

Synthetic nucleosides, nucleotides and nucleic acids have found applications in biotechnology, biology and medicine. In medicine several nucleoside analogues are used as antiviral or anticancer agents. The remarkable chemical properties of Nucleotide polymers are the privileged structures as diagnostic tools (for example SNP detection), nanoprobes and (bio) sensors due their remarkable chemical properties.
